VINTAGE WORLD WAR II AIRCRAFT WILL VISIT BARNSTABLE MUNICIPAL AIRPORT SEPT. 16-18 Planes that “won the war” will be open for Inspection5
HYANNIS – Barnstable Municipal Airport will host three vintage World War II aircraft as part of a national Wings of Freedom tour Sept. 16-18. On display and open for inspection will be a B-17 Flying Fortress, a B-24 Liberator and a P-51 Mustang. The B-24 heavy bomber and the P-51 fighter are the only remaining planes of their type still flying. “This is a special opportunity to visit and explore these first rate treasures of aviation history,” said Airport Manager Roland “Bud” Breault. “The airport urges veterans, families and school children to come out to see them.” The aircraft will be on display at the airport from 2-5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16; 9-5 on Thursday the 17th and 9 a.m. to noon on Friday, the 18th. Validated free parking will be available in the main parking lot; tickets will be validated in the aircraft display area. The planes are operated by the non-profit, educational Collings Foundation of Stow, Massachusetts. The organization requests a $12 donation ($6 for children) to explore the planes inside and out. Special flights aboard the aircraft are available by calling 800 568-8924. Editors: Contact: Chip Bishop at 508 398-1997 or at Chip@ChipBishop.com.
